DESCRIPTION:Wet Felting Decorative Tote Bag Workshop (2) \nCost: £90 \nDuration: Saturday 15th August 2026\, 10.00am – 4.00pm \nLocation: Scampston Walled Garden\, Richardson Conservatory\, Malton\, North Yorkshire\, YO17 8NG \nMinimum Spaces 6 / Maximum Spaces 8 \n Description: \nYou will spend the day in the magnificent Richardson Conservatory within the award-winning Scampston Walled Garden. This workshop gives participants all the basic information and skills to learn the technique of 3D wet felting\, you will create a beautiful medium sized decorative tote style wool felted handbag. \nFelt is surprisingly strong and no two pieces will ever be the same\, this is the time to embrace your creativity and add your personal mark. \nThis method of felting uses soap\, warm water and agitation to tangle fibres together to create felt. In approximately 6 hours you will explore making a colourful decorative handbag\, we start by using a resist (pattern) for your bag you will then be guided through choosing colours and textures and the wet felting process. \nThere will be a short 30 minute break for lunch\, in order to maximise teaching time. After the workshop you will also be able to visit the surrounding gardens which close at 5pm. \nYou do not need any prior experience and you will be provided with all the necessary materials and equipment to use on the day. \nTutor: \nLiz Riley is designer feltmaker with a love of colour and texture. Focusing on traditional feltmaking techniques\, her work combines art with a love for making wearable\, useable items. Whilst embracing the dexterity of working with fibre\, she finds transforming a sheep’s fleece into fabric endlessly fascinating. \nWith a love for making\, her inspiration and motivation is defined by strong colour combinations and colour blends. The festival opens at 10am and closes at 5pm. The venue is Sandburn Hall\, Flaxton\, it boasts an 18 hole golf course\, stunning function hall\, event space with Tykes restaurant and lodge accommodation. Located just off the A64\, between York and Malton with easy transport links and lots of free parking. Accessible to all\, lift to first floor room and workshops.
