Why Wool?

When you buy one of our beautiful handcrafted items you are doing so knowing that you are buying a 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable product. Wool is the most reused and recycled fibre, making it environmentally responsible and sustainable.
Wool is part of Britain’s history and heritage. It was first woven into cloth here in the Bronze Age, which began about 1900BC, however in historical terms this is comparatively recent, elsewhere in the world primitive man had domesticated the sheep in 10,000 BC.
WOOL IS…
- 100% natural. Grown all year round by our wool growers just using water, air, sunshine and grass.
- 100% biodegradable, at the end of its useful life wool can be returned to the soil where it naturally decomposes, releasing valuable nutrients back into the ground.
- 100% renewable, each year sheep produce a new fleece, making wool a completely renewable fibre.
Naturally safe, wool is not known to cause allergies and does not promote growth of bacteria, it is naturally flame retardant and possesses a naturally high level of UV protection.

About Liz

About Liz: Hello, I’m Liz, owner and founder of Everything Felt Fibre Art which I set up in 2017.
Having qualified as a chartered accountant and working in Finance for over 20 years, I made the decision in 2017 to leave my career behind and explore a creative lifestyle, something where my true passion lies – creativity and wool.
I have always had a passion for handicrafts and making things, learning many skills from my family from a very early age. Over the years I have explored and learnt many crafts, then I discovered felt and instantly fell in love with its versatility and creative opportunities. Embracing the dexterity of working with fibre I find transforming a sheep’s fleece into fabric endlessly fascinating, a way to create totally one of a kind, truly ‘me’ items that are meaningful and personal.
My designs are inspired by experimenting with colour and texture. Focusing on traditional feltmaking techniques my work combines art with a love for making wearable and useable items. Defined by strong colour combinations and colour blends using hand dyed wool, silks and hand spun yarns, my work is characteristic of artisan felted work. I source and choose only the very best wool, yarn and materials for my work, I believe that putting that effort into designing and creating deserves only the very best supplies. Visit my Gallery for images of my work: https://everythingfelt.co.uk/gallery/
Being creative gives me a deep sense of wellbeing and confidence, this gave me the inspiration and incentive to share my knowledge and skills to encourage and develop creativity in others. I have developed kits and workshops to give ‘Makers’ the tools and techniques to create special items for themselves.
I am co-founder of Embracing Wool, a collaboration of artisans from North Yorkshire and neighbouring counties. Who primarily work with and promote the use of wool as a medium for their artistic work. We come together to exhibit our work collectively as a group at venues throughout North Yorkshire. www.embracingwool.co.uk
