Hand Dyed Rarefied Margilan Silk S2DB
This colourful Hand Dyed Rarefied Margilan Silk S2DB is hand dyed by myself in the UK, I dye silks with feltmakers in mind but with an open weave it is lightweight, delicate and is ideal for many other mixed media and textile projects.
Rarefied Margilan Silk. Approximate Size: 200cm x 45cm.
Colour: Dark Blue
This silk piece is perfect for Nuno Felting and is 100% pure Rarefied Margilan silk. Margilan silk, originating from Margilan in Uzbekistan, is a high quality, lightweight silk known for its sheer texture. Its open structure allows for a delicate texture and easy dyeing. The silk is known for its ability to maintain its natural pearl lustre after dyeing. Margilan silk is sheer and delicate making it ideal for fine craftwork and layering. It has an open gauze like structure which makes it easy to felt. A favourite among artists and crafters and one of my personal favourites.
This silk will felt perfectly so giving reassurance that the fabric is a perfect start for beginner felt makers.
Cold wash only, not guaranteed colourfast.
This fabric is fine and any slubs and irregularities are inherent to the fabric, as they are hand dyed each piece is different. Colours may vary slightly to images online.
If you fancy having a go at wet felting, join one of our Workshops. All materials, equipment and tuition are provided to support and guide you through the process of wet felting using traditional hand rolling techniques. You will be guided through choosing colours and textures and then the wet felting process. We also look at how to further enhance your work with embellishments such as beads, silks, yarns and embroidery to add further surface texture and detail. You will take away the work you produce on the day plus PDF notes for reference later.
